Seven Shifted

In 2020, a group of 7 keen New Brunswick artists took to Northern New Brunswick on a self led 4 day residency to experience the depths of winter in all its harsh brilliance. Inspired by the 100 year celebration of the renown Group of Seven, we trudged through knee deep snow, got pelleted with freezing rain and basked in delightful morning and evening sunlight across the backwoods and shore lines of Dalhousie and Cambellton. Once home, the seven artists retreated to their studios for the remaining winter months, expressing all they experienced within their respective mediums. Participating artists were, Allison Green, Penny Heather, Kaitlin Hoyt, Laura Lamey, Brittany Schuler, Anne Stillwell and Hailley Fayle.

The following work was created by Anne Stillwell.

“As the tide crept forward and the temperature dropped - freezing in time nature’s most delicate designs. A flowing scenery with energetic motion, paused for my eyes to absorb. The shadows reveal a depth of sparkle I couldn’t have imagined. & right then, my heart melted onto the open landscape” - Anne Stillwell 2020, CreatedHere Magazine, Ode to Studios, Issue 14
