Beneath the Surface

“Curiosity pulls me off the Fundy trail. Dialing into the decaying stump, appearing dead and dismissed, it stands strong. Housing an abundance of life, rich with fungi, mosses and lichen. Living in symbiosis and loaded with lessons, this microhabitat leaves an impression in my heart. Plexiglass provided a shield during times of crisis. Yet, we aren’t the only ones in need of protection. By reusing, reshaping, molding and etching, I left my mark. Amplifying the voices of the vulnerable. My pursuit is to notice, to be immersed, to reflect and to act on the needs of nature.” Artist statement by Anne Stillwell from Beneath the Surface group show at Fundy National Park in 2023.
